MAPILLAI ALAIPPU | Welcoming the Groom

The wedding ceremony commences with the arrival of the groom. He is accompanied by his family and the Tholan (bride’s brother). The bride’s family welcomes the groom at the entrance and the Tholan sprinkles water on the groom’s feet. In return the groom presents the Tholan with a gold ring as a token of his appreciation for acceptance into the family. This tradition signifies the beginning of familial bonds between both sides.
