KAANIKAATHAANAM | Giving Away of the Bride

G7.png

This meaningful part of the ceremony marks the formal giving away of the bride’s hand in marriage by her parents to the groom. The priest performs a ritual, invoking blessings from the divine and ancestors for their union. The bride’s hand is then placed in the groom’s hand by her parents, symbolizing their union. The Koorai (bridal saree) and Thaali (sacred gold chain) are blessed by the priest and taken around to the guests for their blessings. The groom then presents them to the bride, who briefly leaves the Manavarai with her Tholi to change into her bridal saree.
